The association’s Position Statement on Sexual Boundaries Between Doctors and their Patients 2012 and its Patient Examination Guidelines 2012, released last week, updated the previous position statement and guidelines from 1994 and 1996.

The new position statement now refers to the maintenance of appropriate boundaries with former patients, patients’ carers and family members. It also puts greater emphasis on consent while highlighting guidelines from the Medical Board of Australia on sexual boundaries and mandatory reporting.
