Amyloid PET improves dementia diagnosis and treatment

Amyloid positron-emission tomography (PET) improves the diagnosis and treatment of dementia in daily clinical practice, according to a Dutch study.

Researchers examined how amyloid PET affected diagnosis, diagnostic confidence, treatment and patient experiences among 507 clients of a university hospital memory clinic in Amsterdam.

In almost half of the cases, the scan results were positive, including 78% of those with pre-scan diagnoses of dementia, 63% of those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) with suspected Alzheimer dementia (AD) aetiology and 25% of patients with
