Ancient Egyptians knew about reactive arthritis

The inflammatory rheumatic disease reactive arthritis was first identified by ancient physicians thousands of years ago, according to research published in the Journal of Rheumatology.

The constellation of conditions making up the disease – joint and eye inflammation coupled with genitourinary symptoms – was first described in the modern era in the 19th century, and only recognised as a separate disease in the 20th century by the notorious Nazi rheumatologist Hans Reiter, who was later found guilty of concentration camp war
