Androgen testing of athletes ‘discriminatory’ says ethicist

The policy on female hyperandrogenism, a condition where intersex female athletes with elevated androgen production may have a competitive advantage, was released by the IOC last month.

Under the new rules, if a female athlete is suspected of having hyperandrogenism, they can be investigated by an IOC-appointed expert panel, who will establish whether the athlete’s testosterone levels are within the male range, and whether the extra testosterone is functional.
