Antenatal depression awareness lacking
A cross-sectional, Australia-wide survey of 1201 randomly chosen adults found that while community awareness of postnatal depression was high, both anxiety and antenatal depression were far less recognised.
Likewise, community members did not have a good understanding of established risk factors for postnatal depression.
The authors of a paper published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry concluded that there is “considerable scope for awareness raising”.
