Anti-allergy infant formulas ‘don’t work’

HYDROLYSED infant formula does not protect against allergic disease, according to findings from a large meta-analysis that conflicts with Australian advice to offer it to high-risk infants.

The study, which has looked at the results of 37 trials covering more than 19,000 infants, found no consistent evidence that partially or extensively hydrolysed formulas reduce the risk of allergy or autoimmune disease compared with standard cows’ milk formula.
