Antibiotics: Is there hope for the future?
A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine provided a perspective on the current and future prospects for humans in a world where bacteria hold the upper hand in the fight between them and antibiotics (and humans). It opened with a quote from the World Economic Forum: “Arguably the greatest risk... to human health comes in the form of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. We live in a world where we will never be able to stay ahead of the mutation curve. A test of our resilience is how far behind the curve we allow us to fall.”
