Antiepileptic touted as alternative for neuropathic pain

Low-dose sodium valproate is an effective second-line treatment for neuropathic pain when first-line drugs are unsuccessful or contraindicated, say Sydney neurologists.

They have reported on four cases where 200mg of sodium valproate taken twice daily led to a substantial reduction in neuropathic pain, in some cases eliminating it altogether.
