Apnoea treatment good for glycaemic control
The case-control study in 300 patients showed that HbA1c in the 150 people treated with CPAP was 8.2% after five years, compared with 12.1% in those not treated with CPAP.
Systolic and diastolic blood pressure was also higher in the untreated compared with the treated group.
The CPAP compliance rate was 89% at five years.
CPAP treatment also increased patients’ health status measured by quality-adjusted life years (QALY), with a cost per QALY gained of $27,540.
