Apps help control blood sugar in type 2

Type 2 patients who use smartphone apps to manage their diabetes have improved glucose control, a meta-analysis finds.

Reviewed studies reported a reduction HbA1c of around the 0.5% HbA1c mark in patients who used an app, compared to those who did not.

Apps could become a useful, affordable tool in helping self-manage type 2 diabetes, although the functionality needs to be standardised, the UK researchers say.
