Aussie study finds key heart failure predictors
Clinical findings and biomarkers that can predict patients with cardiovascular diseasewith most at risk of heart failure have been determined by Australian researchers.
Using data on 7000 patients with stable heart disease, four clinical conditions at baseline were shown to raise the risk of death from heart failure or hospitalisation for the condition over a median of six years of follow up, the authors said. These were:
- Being aged > 70 years - nearly tripled the HF risk
- Serum LDL cholesterol > 2.5 mmol/L - doubled the HF risk
