Australia lagging behind on dementia: RANZCP

RANZCP president Professor Mal Hopwood has raised concerns over an ongoing lack of coordination between dementia and mental health policy development at a national level.

Mental health services are underestimated when it comes to treating people with dementia,

Prof Hopwood writes in a submission to an analysis of dementia programs and services funded by the Department of Social Services.

The disarray in Australia is in “marked contrast” to the situation in comparable countries, such as New Zealand and the UK, he says.
