Autism and attention deficit often co-exist

In a research sample of 153 children aged four to eight, 62 had ASD and 29% of those also had ADHD.

The children with both ASD and ADHD had worse scores than the ASD-only group for all subscales of social responsiveness, including awareness, cognition, communication, motivation and mannerisms.

Similarly, the ASD/ADHD group scored worse than the ASD only group, which in turn scored worse than the no ASD group, on communication, socialisation and daily living skills.
