Avoid long-term low FODMAP diet

Diets low in FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols), the carbohydrates that can be poorly absorbed in the small intestine of some people, have been reported to reduce gastrointestinal symptoms in about 75% of people with IBS, but researchers from Monash University have said there may be unfavourable effects of the diet long-term.
