Back troubles common in anti-TNF treated IBD

Canberra researchers have found high levels of spondyloarthropathy (SpA) in patients with inflammatory bowel syndrome treated with TNF inhibitors.

Data from 140 IBD patients with moderate to severe disease presenting at an IBD clinic show that on imaging, 30% met the criteria for axial SpA. A further 14% met clinical criteria for the condition, which includes chronic back pain lasting for three or more months plus three of four other parameters.
