Barrett’s: HPV, p53 and statins

Human papilloma virus and p53 protein may play a role in oesophageal adenocarcinoma progression, an Australian study suggests, while a US study in veterans shows that statins may lower their risk of the disease.

Of 40 patients seeing the same endoscopist at Bankstown Hospital, Sydney, for radiofrequency ablation of Barrett’s dysplasia or oesophageal adenocarcinoma, only six had either persistent dysplasia or adenocarcinoma at follow-up endoscopy.
