This BCC is deeper than it looks

AT FIRST glance, this may look like a simple ulcerated basal cell carcinoma (BCC) to excise.

However, notice the white area extending medially and inferiorly down the nose towards the tip, because this is all part of an ulcerated infiltrating or morphoeic BCC.

The extent of this lesion can be seen better by blanching the skin of the nose to remove the background erythema.

There’s more: the lesion may extend another 5mm outside the visible surface area, requiring an excision margin of 7mm around the obvious pale area to clear the tumour.
