Beware depression mimicking CJD: experts

Eminently treatable psychiatric disorders can sometimes masquerade as major irreversible neurological diseases, Australian experts warn.

They report on a case of an 80-year old woman who was admitted for neurological assessment after a six-week history of rapid deterioration in functional state of unclear cause.

She was virtually mute with bilateral bradykinesia and upper limb tremor. Over the following fortnight she further declined with increased perseveration, agitation and hypervigilance.
