Bid to reduce unnecessary hysterectomies with new clinical standards

WOMEN requiring medical treatment for menorrhagia should be offered the levonorgestrel intrauterine system first line, according to a draft clinical care standard.

A public consultation is underway to develop a standard on heavy menstrual bleeding following a national survey that found women in regional areas were five times more likely than their city sisters to undergo hysterectomy or endometrial ablation.
