Blood glucose monitoring a problem during Ramadan

A third of Muslims with diabetes believe finger prick testing during Ramadan will  invalidate their fast, research shows.

The Koran specifically exempts people with serious or chronic illness, including diabetes, but most muslims still choose to fast, the authors led by Shabeen Naz Masood from Karachi Pakistan wrote in Diabetes Care.

Their retrospective study of over 800 people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes found that over three-quarters did not perform blood glucose monitoring
