Bone scans still needed with bisphosphonates

A significant proportion of women on bisphosphonates experience a decline in mineral bone density on subsequent scans, Canadian researchers have found.

Their study suggests that women should continue to have DXA scans while on osteoporosis treatment, although it doesn’t identify an optimum testing interval.

Data from over 6600 postmenopausal women taking bisphosphonates showed that while 30%
