Bowel cancer rates revised down in UC
The incidence of colorectal cancer in patients with ulcerative colitis is considerably lower than has previously been estimated, a new meta-analysis claims.
Data from 81 studies and nearly 200,000 patients showed the overall rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) in UC patients to be 1.69 per 1000 patient-years (py).
This rose to 4.07/1000py in the second decade after diagnosis and 4.55/1000py in the third decade, the authors from the Hospital Universitario de la Princesa in Madrid, Spain found.
