Bowel obstruction in woman, 79, from IUD
IT HAD been inside the patient for nearly 50 years before she started reporting pain.
Two colorectal surgeons have reported the case of a woman who presented with small bowel obstruction caused by her intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD).
The 79-year-old patient presented to a WA hospital emergency department with severe epigastric pain accompanied by vomiting and an inability to pass flatus.
However, the patient had no fever or other infective symptoms. She mentioned she had an IUD implanted in the 1960s.
