Caesarean section linked to increased risk of endometriosis
Women who had caesarean sections had an 80% higher risk of endometriosis diagnosis after their first delivery compared with those who had vaginal deliveries.
Of the 700,000 women included in the prospective cohort study, 3100 women from patient registries had endometriosis not previously diagnosed.
The risk of any endometriosis was 0.4% in the vaginal birth group and 0.6% in the caesarean group, which was higher than the 0.1% risk of scar endometriosis.
