Call for chiros to report adverse events

There are calls for a national system to collect information on adverse events resulting from chiropractic treatment.

The issue was raised in the Medical Journal of Australia in the wake of allegations that a four-month-old baby had a neck fracture following treatment for torticollis.

At the time, the Chiropractors Association of Australia (CAA) said there had not been a single serious adverse event involving a qualified chiropractor treating a child since 1992 — either in Australia or worldwide.

But Melbourne-based orthopaedic spinal surgeon John
