Call to cut BMI threshold for weight-loss surgery

The BMI threshold for bariatric surgery in type 2 diabetes should be lowered, according to draft guidelines published in the UK.

The surgery is generally recommended for T2D patients with morbid obesity or comorbidities and a BMI of 35 or more, but the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) says those with a BMI as low as 30 should also be considered for assessment.
