Call for PrEP drug to be fast-tracked
ADVOCATES for people with HIV in Australia are calling for a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) drug to be fast-tracked, saying there’s more than 8000 men waiting to use it.
“We have a body of research demonstrating the feasibility of providing PrEP in Australia,” says Associate Professor Mark Boyd, president of the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine in a media statement.
“The results tell us that the sooner we can make this medication available to Australians at risk of HIV the better.”
There are an estimated 8300 homosexually identifying men
