CAM use widespread in OA
Unwillingness to exercise leads many osteoarthritis sufferers to take complementary and alternative medicines (CAM), according to Australian research.
The study of 435 osteoarthritis patients in NSW and SA shows 69% use CAM, with most taking two or more different products.
By far the most common CAM was fish/krill/omega oil, taken by 74% of CAM consumers. Other popular medicines were glucosamine, vitamin supplements, chondroitin, minerals and herbal medicines.
A number of reasons for CAM use emerged from
