Cancer Council backs patients’ decisions

In a position statement, the Cancer Council Australia said it respected the decision of individuals to use complementary and alternative therapies provided they were not at risk of  harm.

Noting half of all cancer patients now use some form of complementary and alternative therapies, the council encouraged doctors to routinely discuss it with patients in “an open and non-judgemental manner”.

Patients thinking about using non-conventional therapies need to make an informed choice, the council said.
