Cancer survivors opt for hospital follow-up

Some 94% of survivors told investigators in a survey they would prefer follow-up with their oncologist at the hospital where they were originally treated, but only 34.5% said GP care would meet their needs.

In the study presented at the COSA meeting, surveys were returned by 182 survivors from five NSW oncology units, mostly women who had breast cancer.

Almost two-thirds supported hospital follow-up care, not necessarily provided by their original doctor.

Just over half (57.7%) said specialist nurse-led
