Cannabis doubles risk of car crashes

The added risk was particularly seen in studies that focused on fatal crashes, according to the review of nine studies including almost 50,000 cannabis-affected drivers and controls.

“The pooled risk of a motor vehicle collision while driving under the influence of cannabis was almost twice the risk while driving unimpaired,” the authors said.

Driving under the influence of cannabis – either self-reported or confirmed via blood test – was seen to increase crash risk compared to unimpaired driving by an overall 92%.
