Catalyst expert withdraws statin claim

An expert featured in Catalyst's roundly discredited statins investigation has been forced to withdraw statements he made in the BMJ last October exaggerating the drug’s side effects.

Dr John Abramson (pictured), a public health doctor at Harvard University, is one of two authors who claimed 18-20% of patients taking the cholesterol-lowering drugs experienced adverse effects.

He made the claim in an analysis piece entitled ‘Should people at low risk of cardiovascular disease take a statin?
