Caution urged with high-intensity exercise

High-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) may be the flavour of the month, but it should be prescribed cautiously for patients with cardiovascular or metabolic diseases, Australian experts say.

Their meta-analysis of eleven studies with 156 participants shows an 8% rate of adverse events during or directly after a session of HIEE – higher than the reported rates for moderate-intensity exercise.
