Caution urged over routine antibiotic use

THE pendulum of medical opinion could be swinging back towards the more routine use of antibiotics for acute otitis media (AOM) but Australian experts have urged caution.

Evidence-based medicine exp­ert Professor Chris Del Mar, from Bond University, and colleagues said any advice to increase the use of antibiotics in primary care would contribute to the threat from antibiotic resistance.
