CBT and schizophrenia

According to a UK-based study, patients with schizophrenia who received 6–8 months of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for psychosis, along with their usual treatment, showed significant clinical improvement compared with their peers, who only received usual treatment.

In addition, MRI scans showed that when the patients who had undergone CBT for psychosis were exposed to threatening stimuli, they experienced significantly less activation of several regions of the brain that are associated with fear and anger.
