CBT boosts glycaemic control and mood
The US study of 87 patients with HbA1c greater than 7% plus depression, showed four months of CBT improved oral medication adherence by 20 percentage points, self-monitored blood glucose adherence by 30 percentage points and lowered HbA1c by 0.72mmol/mol.
In addition, the intervention improved depression scores on two scales after four months.
Improvement on all outcomes was maintained after 12 months of follow-up, the study found.
