Cervical cancer link to TNF inhibitors

Women who are taking a biologic for their rheumatoid arthritis are at an increased risk of developing cervical cancer, according to a large Swedish study.

Compared with biologic-naïve women with RA, those taking a TNF inhibitor had a 36% higher risk of grade 2 cervical neoplasia and around double the risk of cervical cancer, the researchers from Karolinska Institutet found.
