Change of term for vulvovaginal atrophy

International women’s health specialists have agreed to replace the term vulvovaginal atrophy with the term genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM).

They believe this is a more medically accurate, all-encompassing, and publicly acceptable way of describing the genitourinary tract symptoms related to menopause, according to an article in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
