Chicken wishbone in colon mistaken as diverticulitis

A woman’s abdominal pain was mistakenly diagnosed as diverticulitis until surgeons discovered a chicken wishbone stuck in her sigmoid colon.

Serbian gastroenterologists have reported on the case of a 75-year-old woman who presented with a 7-day history of nausea, left lower quadrant abdominal pain and fever.

An abdominal X-ray showed bowel distension with one significant air-fluid level, without pneumoperitonium.
