Child heart study points to genetic susceptibility

Researchers recruited 155 eight-year-old children – 92 European and 63 South Asian – and asked them to wear a heart rate and physical activity monitor for a week.

The South Asian children were found to have lower levels of activity and energy expenditure and higher levels of body fat. But this only partly accounted for their lower heart rate variability.
