Child mortality reduction targets out of reach

In a study funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, public health experts from the US concluded the number of children dying before the age of five will decrease from 7.6 million in 2010 to 5.4 million in 2035, a drop of only 28%, if current trends continue.

But deaths could be more than halved if all countries matched the best performing nations in implementing proven initiatives, they said.
