Cholera now a risk in travellers to Cuba

An Italian tourist who consumed raw seafood he caught himself along the Havana coast spent 10 days in hospital on return home in July, and was found to have a Haitian strain of cholera.

Cuban health authorities reported in late August an ongoing cholera outbreak with 163 cases recorded in three provinces this year alone.
Cholera was reported in Cuba in 2010 following outbreaks in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
