CKD overdiagnosis raises concerns

GP and epidemiologist Professor Jenny Doust, from Bond University, said data suggested 20% of the population would have an eGFR between 45 and 59 and meet the criteria to be diagnosed with stage 3A CKD. 

A position statement from the Australasian Proteinuria Consensus Working Group says the eGFR test should be repeated within three months and a patient must have a minimum of three reduced eGFR results for at least three months for diagnosis.
