CKD screen added to diabetes PIP

The move, designed to identify chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with diabetes earlier, was announced at the launch of national Kidney Health Week.

“CKD is a major health problem that is thought to affect around one in seven Australians, although the exact number is unknown as many people remain undiagnosed,” said Health Minister Tanya Plibersek.

The PIP diabetes incentive currently includes eye examinations, body mass and blood glucose monitoring, self-care education and review of diet, smoking and physical activity.
