Clopidogrel-aspirin combo offers better stroke protection

The findings from a study of 5000 at-risk patients in China differ from previous findings of increased risk of haemorrhage with the combination, researchers said.

They found patients randomised within 24 hours to clopidogrel at initial dose of 300mg, followed by 75mg per day for 90 days plus aspirin 75mg for the first 21 days, had a 32% reduced risk of stroke compared to controls receiving placebo plus aspirin 75mg per day for 90 days, with no increased risk of bleeding.
