Cochrane co-founder's withering attack on Aussie psychiatrists

A CO-FOUNDER of the Cochrane Collaboration has launched a withering attack on Australian psychiatry in a new book exposing problems of the profession worldwide.

Professor Peter Gotzsche (pictured), who leads the Nordic Cochrane Centre in Denmark, describes the power structure of Australian psychiatry as “very disturbing” in his book Deadly Psychiatry and Organised Denial.

There are many examples of Australian psychiatrists preventing open debate about “issues of crucial public health importance” such as antidepressant safety, he says.
