Cognitive factors can worsen knee pain: study

Catastrophising, feelings of helplessness and other cognitive factors play a significant role in knee pain, according to an Australian systematic review.

The researchers, led by Donna Urquhart and Pyae Phyomaung from Monash University, found a significant inverse relationship between knee pain and reduced cognitive functioning in coping, self-efficacy, somatising, pain catastrophising and helplessness.
