Conflict of interest furore as study links news reports to statin use

A STUDY linking negative news coverage about statins with discontinuation and an increased risk of cardiovascular death has been challenged because of an apparent conflict of interest.

Professor Børge Nordestgaard, Chief Physician at Copenhagen University Hospital, has admitted receiving “consultancy fees and/or lecture honoraries” from several pharmaceutical companies, including those that produce the cholesterol-lowering drugs.
