Congenital Rubella threat escalates in Poland

In the first quarter of this year, Poland reported the highest number of rubella infection cases since 2007, at 55.2 per 100,000 population, with 80% occurring among young men aged 15 to 29 years.

This reflected an age-shift in infection due to the country’s history of patchy immunisation coverage, the researchers said.

With more than 20,000 cases reported, it is a 10-fold increase over 2012, the researchers said.
