Contraceptives up surgery risk in Crohn’s

Long-term oral contraceptive use is associated with an increased risk of surgery for Crohn’s disease in women, US researchers say.   

Their study of over 4000 Swedish patients aged 16-51 years old with Crohn’s found for every one year of combined oral contraceptive use, the risk of surgery increased by 30%.

That means for every 83 women with Crohn’s taking the combined oral contraceptive
